Question 1

How is GPA calculated?

Accepted Answer

GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points by its credit hours, summing all weighted points, then dividing by total credit hours. Example: A (4.0) × 3 credits = 12 points + B (3.0) × 4 credits = 12 points → 24 points ÷ 7 credits = 3.43 GPA.

Question 2

What is the difference between a 4.0 and weighted GPA?

Accepted Answer

A standard (unweighted) GPA scales grades from 0.0 to 4.0, where A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0. A weighted GPA gives extra points for honors or AP courses — an A in an AP class might equal 5.0. Weighted GPA can exceed 4.0 and varies by school.
